in the Jewish Community


Altmann, Esther

Esther Altmann, Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist in private practice. Formerly on the teaching faculty of NYU, Adelphi University, Drisha, and YCT Rabbinical School, she has also been a supervising psychologist at several NYC hospitals and is the Director of Pastoral Education at Yeshivat Maharat. Dr. Altmann has served as an eating disorders consultant to Jewish Institutions and helped develop the treatment program at the Renfrew Center for Orthodox patients. Dr. Altmann writes and lectures in schools and communities on mental health topics.


Ilene V. Fishman, LCSW, ACSW, has been specializing in the treatment of eating disorders for 30 years. Ilene trained and was on staff at the Center for the Study of Anorexia and Bulimia (CSAB) and is currently a supervisor there. While serving on the national board of the American Anorexia Bulimia Association (AABA), Ilene helped found the National Eating Disorder Association (NEDA) and was named in December 2013 to the Board of Directors. This fall, Ilene taught a Masters level, eating disorder elective class at the Wurzweiler School of Social Work, Yeshiva University. Ilene is in private practice in New York City and Montclair, NJ and speaks widely on the subject of eating disorders.



Yael Latzer, D.Sc. serves as Director of the Eating Disorders Clinic of Rambam Medical Center, which she founded in 1992. She also serves as an Associate Professor of Social Welfare and Health Sciences at Haifa University. She established the well known rehabilitation house (Zeida Laderech), for young women with eating disorders who have entered their recovery phase. For the last 10 years she has been an advisor to the Israeli Knesset and has contributed dramatically to the change in treatment policy regarding eating disorders. In the 2013-2014 academic year she will be on a sabbatical in NYC, teaching at Ferkauf School of Psychology and joining a research project at Columbia University.
