conducts educational studies and develops programs that foster healthy
meeting opportunities and relationships toward marriage. With 114
engagements, 2300 members and 90 connectors worldwide, YUConnects
arranges hundreds of dates each week as it expands horizons for the
Orthodox singles population.
March 9, YUConnects in partnership with Congregation Shaarei Orah of
Teaneck hosted a fantastic multimedia trivia game, "A Sephardi
Panoply." Over 75 participants had the chance to meet
and mingle in an
upscale setting with good food and an interesting program. With many dates
flowing from this event and follow-up continuing, YUConnects is
grateful for partnerships with caring communities that want to increase
February 11th - The large beautiful basement in Cong. Shaaray Tefila in
Lawrence was filled to capacity when over 90 single men and women met
with nearly 40 matchmakers (from SawYouAtSinai, YUConnects and local
comfortable and personal short meetings. By "speed dating with
matchmakers" the participants had an opportunity to make connections
and convey a bit of their essence which will hopefully yield many
targeted suggestions. On average, each attendee met with 6 or 7
matchmakers who eagerly took their information. After the long and busy
night, all agreed that the hours were well spent and productive.
part of the Seforim Sale events, YUConnects and the Student Medical
Ethics Society co-sponsored a fascinating lecture which was open to the
entire community and the attendees packed into a large Belfer Hall
lecture room on February 14th. "The Dangers of Bikur Cholim- How to do
the Mitzvah Right" was given by Rabbi Aaron Glatt, M.D. who conveyed
the importance of this mitzvah through humorous anecdotes and halachic
insights. The singles that participated had the added benefit of
mingling afterwards over refreshments and introducing themselves to the
friendly YUConnects Connectors who volunteered their time at the event.
With the resources and connections of Yeshiva University at hand,
YUConnects staff has been at the forefront of cutting edge research
that will enhance future relationship education and matchmaking skills.
Together with our S.Daniel Abraham program, we have been collecting
data from the Year in Israel Schools
on classes they teach relating to
dating and marriage. The information will be useful in building future
enhanced curriculum. Additionally, an ongoing Matchmaker Success Survey
following each engagement will give feedback and helpful direction to the
greater Connector community.
